sadly john it sounds like your slave cylinders burst in the gear box ,this often contaminates the clutch as well

Hi Mark thanks for the quick reply. I'd already tried to do a search on here but it didn't turn up much, Apart from to check the reservoir above the clutch pedal. I did and found it empty?? refilled and pump a few time & clutch now seems to be working again. obviously I have a leak somewhere. Hopefully panic over or is it

Been there done that! Get saving and be ready to wave good bye to a grand!!!!!

If you have 1 bit gone have it all changed will save you time and expense in the future. Oh and get them to change gearbox oil at the same time. You won't believe how much lighter the clutch will be.

the problem will come back sadly, was the drivers side foot well wet?this would indicate the master cylinder leaking if not its the slave in the gear box if you shop around and supply the parts it should cost about 400-450

if it looked like clutch fluid get a torch and crane your head up at the master cylinder you can see the piston quite easy if that's wet there's your problem

No, theyre not EASY to change John, unless you very pliable and 2 foot tall it helps, and I reckon you need to be quite mechanically minded as well.

The advantage of it being the "master" is, you dont have to remove the gearbox, but according to the experts, when one goes, they are all near their end...

My slave went, and because my car had done 160k at the time, i renewed everything, including the DMF......the parts cost me £600 from www.buypartsby.co.uk and they were all genuine LUK parts. Labout cost me £180 which included gearbox oil...

A geniune LUK master should cost you around £100...
