Default when the clutch master cylinder fails

when the clutch master cylinder fails, what has actually failed?
Is it the seal or the body?

The front seal is the one that does the business.---

The rear seal stops any leaks dripping on to the carpet in the car.----

argh, I misunderstood thank you, I thought the diagram meant the body had a seal at the front. The plunger seal looks too small, I'd have thought fluid would bypass the plunger seal at the front, must go to spec savers.

It does look a bit small in that picture but in real life it's quite a lot bigger.--

( As the Bishop said to the actress. Lol. )

The ring at the end can snap too! As a tip, if you are doing anything that involves removing the master cylinder, immerse the plastic ring in water for ten minutes, the plastic will absorb water and put some of the strength back in.

Would warm water be better ???

Heat seems to make lots of types of plastic more flexible and less brittle.--
