Take your hiking boots if you go back to France. You will need them.

Yes exactly, can you imagine how much hassle you would have arriving in Calais and finding your car is impounded for non payment of fine. My guess the French authorities could take hours sorting it out if they wanted too.

With the penalties that they are likely to impose for late payment that could seriously ruin your trip.

Personally I would pay as much as it would grieve me but not have the worry on the next trip. Knowing how arsy the Gendarmes can be on even minor offences to us English it is better to just put it behind you.

Well I have just received a letter from the Dutch authorities saying I was caught by a speed camera on the 23rd of september, (our Boxtel jolly) now as we know from this thread others were caught also but I'm a bit concerned this might be some sort of elaborate scam,
one, because it's so long since the 23rd of September
two, because the letter arrived on the 13th of December and its dated the 17th of December.

If it's legitimate I'll happily pay the fine but if not, well that's a different matter.

Roy, ask them to supply the photograph, I did and it was certainly my car in the picture.

The strange thing was, when I received my letter it was post dated too.........in all likelihood it will be genuine I'm afraid

You could of course claim diplomatic immunity, you are after all the Man from Del Monte

Well after trying Google translate I have found out that the word at the top of the letter 'Aanmaning' translates to 'Reminder'
Now I can hand on heart say this is the first letter I have received about this matter but I dont think it's worth the arguing about it so I might as well pay up even though they have stuck another 33 euros on top

84 Euros Roy? sounds about right to me..........look on the bright side, at least there are no points attached, and if this were the UK they'd be looking for a weeks wages, which in the Man from Del Monte's case, would be about 1/4 million pineapple chunks
