Some of these more modern Mercedes are shockingly bad, I was helping my neighbour with his E Class recently. Its a 2007 V6 Diesel, the problems he has had with it have been endless in the last 4 years and now it needs a new inlet manifold at a cost of nearly £1k plus fitting . The car has not even covered 70k miles. Without the new inlet manifold the engine management light will not go out and of course that is an MOT fail.

Rust wise its not to bad but I did notice at the MOT the tester was taking a lot of attention to some parts that he does not usually look at so these must have a history of rust.

I have noticed recently when looking online at used German cars - notably BMWs and Mercedes - seem to be extremely rusty, when compared to our 75s and ZTs of similar age. I can only compare cars for sale and the photos of them on the likes of eBay and Autotrader, but I was quite surprised with the reputation of the German marques. It would seem they are no longer as 'bullet proof' as they used to be? Have the standards been reduced perhaps? To maximise their profits....

That's incredibly scary!

Thankfully my E61 BMW 530d seems as well put together as our cars - 181,000 on the clock currently and about as clean as the ZT with similar mileage

This sort of thing reminds me of the tactic I believe is/was employed by WallMart in the States.

Open a new store.

Wipe out all the local opposition by whatever works, such as running at a loss, until they disappear.

Then the market is all yours.....

And our local, home grown alternatives to the ranges offered by Audi, BMW & Merc (or perhaps Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki & Yamaha) are....Erm.....

Andy.

Stroke of luck perhaps.
Sent off photos this morning to dealer that I get my car serviced at, merely to query how the corrosion was not noticed at last service.
As it had full service history and is only just outside of a 10year corrosion warranty, Mercedes say they will collect my car, cover the cost of a replacement sub-frame (and give me a courtesy car in the meantime). Woo-hoo.😄😄
