Grease-less Meyle upper rear ball joints.
Went to fit these as part of my pre-mot work, squeezed the rubber gaiters, and thought "Hmm, feels a bit empty." So I carefully removed the circlips and the rubbers and WTF?!! Around half a cc of grease in each end, in one little lump - most of the ball joint was completely grease free. Now these joints don't move very far, although they are constantly being worked while the car is travelling so I wonder how long it would take for them to become worn to MoT fail level? They are now liberally greased!

Well spotted, as with the drop links, todays manufacturing processes can be a little conservative with the grease!

I've often wondered if it's possible to fit grease nipples to all the joints that regularly go. So long as we used a grease suitable for steel vs plastic (white grease?) where's the harm. Care would have to be taken drilling and tapping the metal cases, then a drilling through the nylon to the ball but it may be worth a trial?Alternatively, a spray with white aerosol grease down the edge of the rubber works.

I have often wondered about drilling and tapping these modern joints to fit a grease nipple too. |

In theory, if the boots don't perish or leak, the grease put in at manufacture should last forever, but they need to put enough in!

Now there’s a job opportunity for someone. Putting grease in droplinks, and adding x% for labour and repost-age!
Ok, admittedly, it’s not really a viable prospect....mores the pity!!😞 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
