retired greyhounds
since having to put to sleep my old staffie months ago due to failed kidneys the house has been like a morgue so i decided to go to the retired greyhound trust up near to were i live and have a look see .. i decided to get a female called dolly (race name swirling stream) all black 4 years old ,had her last race april this year and came second . has a pretty good track record and now its time for her to retire at our home and take things easy. 2x 30 minute walks a day are that's all she needs, so laid back its unreal thats why they call them the 45 mph couch potato me and the wife are going up to walk her every day for her to get used to us, good in car for days out etc rgds mark

My cousin had one, like Dolly she loved the sofa. Didn't really get on with other dogs though.

Yes you need to be aware(as you are) they are coursers and do like to chase. But its no worse a trait than Border Collies with sheep! our old Ben would lick his lips as soon as he saw sheep so we kept our eyes open. Sounds like you have a good one and its the ultimate recycling without any spurious political rubbish. Chris.S.

Greyhounds are greatly undervalued as household pets, We had Judy when Gloucester dog track closed in 1983, She was a huge thing, weighed 64lbs and as soft as poo. All she wanted was a couple of short walks every day, and spent most of her time asleep on the sofa, never barked, even when left at home on her own for hours and So gentle with kids. I also had a ferret called Nipper who used to climb all over her, she never reacted just took it without complaint, We had her for 10 wonderfull years, and never any cat poo in our back garden whilst she was with us.

Well done for taking on a rescue greyhound, its awful the way they get abandoned after they stop earning for the owners.

We are on rescue greyhound number 5 now and was nice to see Paul o'grady giving them good praise and promoting them on his battersea show, fantastic lazy dogs that people think need lots of exercise when they are the exact opposite haha (45mph couch potato) lovely to here someone going to rescue another as we support greyhound rescue centres where we stay and all the best👍 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great to hear! I've had my Greyhound Bertie for nearly eight years now. He was black when I got him, but he's silver now.
He was only two years old and scared of the world. Advertised as free in a shop window from a racing kennels. My very confident and balanced Springer Spaniel, Oscar mothered him and was like a therapy dog to him I guess. They are truly inseparable. I can't completely trust Bertie with other dogs as he can get a bit protective of Oscar. He is much better though. They are older now and are quite content with a short walk and spend the rest of the time sleeping. A greyhound can fully occupy a king size bed. One thing I would say, keep an eye on your greyhounds teeth. They are quite susceptible to dental issues. My Greyhound had rotten teeth with holes in when he was two. (When I got him...) He has only got four teeth left now.
