Default Uber self drive car kills pedestrian

..... In Arizona. News just breaking. Trials have been stopped in several US cities.

It was only a matter of time. I feel sad for her family

Very sad - people have been killed before in crashes involving self driving cars - but this is apparently the first time one has killed a pedestrian.

Was the person on a bicycle in the road. The pic on the tele showed a damaged bike.

Can't understand why driverless cars should be mixed up on the roads with cars with drivers in them or even other road users.---A recipe for disaster as we can now see.

Terrible thing to happen to that poor woman.

According to CNN she was crossing the road with her bicycle but not actually riding it.

The article I read in The Independent didn’t mention a bike - it did mention a pedestrian crossing the road.

Also - the Uber car did have a driver but the car was in autonomous mode so he/she was not driving.

It brings up the question, who gets the blame for this fatal accident.

Very very sad indeed. Worth noting that on the same day in the Phoenix area 10 pedestrians were killed by human drivers. One by a self driving car (with a human at the wheel) making it 11 for the one day.

if these were stats, it show driverless is safer for pedestrians
