Wishbones giving out every six months, is this normal???
I have a rover 75 CDT tourer 2001 and I have had the car less than 3 years. I have now had to change the wishbones every six months, and wouldn't moan but they're not cheap! I don't drive long journeys, just a few miles every day. This seems to me a bit crazy, and it's not down to cheap parts as the wishbones are more expensive parts every time from different manufacturers. If they go again I think I'll be scrapping or selling the car which is a shame since I have done so much work to keep her going, she's a beautiful car really drives well but cannot justify the mounting costs which I'll never get back if I was to sell. Anyone have ideas/ solutions? Thanks in advance

I’ve experienced cheap wishbones that haven’t lasted but I do drive hard and do a minimum of 18k a year, my question to you is what make/quality have you been supplied with and who is it that have told you they have failed? I would be sceptical Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Why are you replacing them? If you have play at the base of the hub where the lower arm outer balljoint sits then it could be the hub itself has worn and needs to be replaced.
If you are just using cheap lower arms then you are doing well to get some of them to last 6 months. |

As Mike says, check for ovaling of the bottom ball joint pinch bolt hole at the base of the hubs...
Good bottom brackets are around 125.00 each, the 70 odd quid one's will not last...

What is actually failing on the wishbone? Is the ball joint failing? Is it the rear wishbone mount that is failing? I ask as prior to retiring I used to do 100,000k per year. I have had many 75s since my Launch car, I still love them. In all this time I have never had a wishbone fail usually the rear bush is the problem. Can you please confirm what is actually failing. Even if they are failing they’ll be covered under the sale of goods act.
