Default Recent portrait shoot

I recently did a photo shoot of this young model. I was looking for someone to take pictures of for A. New material for the business, B. Practise time.

My aim was to work with my new strobe that I have. I hadn't used it previously until this shoot so wanted to get used to it. I chose a bad day for it really as it was very sunny in the middle of the afternoon which proved very tricky in terms of lighting conditions. I didn't have an assistant with me so it made it a lot harder. Anyway, here are a few images from the shoot. Looking back, there is certain things I would of done a bit differently but I guess that is all part of the learning process. I quite like the head shots in particular. I also got Sarah to hold a reflector for me for the very close up shot and I think it worked well as it lifted the shadows from her neck line and chin. The other head shot, it wasn't possible to get her to hold it due to her positioning of the shot. I have just purchased a reflector holder so I hope that makes a difference to future shoots.

Feedback welcome.

Good morning Ravinder, what lovely photos of a very pretty young lady, Sarah.
Why the railway, does it say “I am on track and I am coming to you soon”?
You live in a beautiful country with so many backgrounds to choose from. Not a criticism here, an observation. But clearly you have the skills to make a portrait look great in any setting available.

Changing light can be challenging and having the flash wil help you have greater control. The other day, I wanted to take some close ups of wild orchids in sun and shade, but I didn’t have the flash with me and “white out” ruined the shots.

Thank you very much for sharing

Thanks, Phil. The railway idea was just something different. We do t have much greenery at the moment. Just very muddy! Everywhere is wet and untidy due to the awful winter. Taking into account not wanting to get the model covered in mud as well. The railway line is pretty much disused and safe so thought I’d go with that. Just something a little different, too. I’m looking forward to doing a spring shoot and incorporating some of the nice spring colours.

There’s a few pictures here where shadows are present which I’m annoyed about. It really was very bright and I think even this powerful flash struggled a little. But, it’s all a learning curve. I know looking back what I would do differently in order to better the images.

Fabulous pics Rav
My favourite is the first one I think

I like the setting too, great contrast between the setting and your model.

Good 'training' exercise for your photography skills
