Default Incorrect wiper operation

With the wiper control arm in the intermittent, slow and fast postions the wipers only go at the normal slow speed.
I have not had time to check yet but is this a sign of a wet ECU (it is a diesel) or should I be looking elsewhere?
Thanks.

It certainly isn't a wet ECU, it's either a wiring or BCU fault.

Seeing it has worked for the last 7years it is unlikely to be a wiring fault. Where is the BCU? Is it something you can test for me?
Thanks.

By BCU fault I meant configuration it's extremely rare for a BCU to fail, In all the years I've been working on these cars I've only changed two that were faulty, one had been damaged by someone trying to fix a fault and the other was a prototype one that had never worked properly from new.

You could try another stalk and see if that is causing the problem.

Has your car got rain sensing wipers?

I hope it is not a MOT failure as it has got to go in this month.

Have you checked the relays in the under bonnet fusebox? You can always swap them with the heated rear screen one.

If that doesn't work then, it's a case of checking for power across the coils of each relay to see if there's power present.
If there isn't it's either a fuse, switch or break in the wiring.

This is often in the wiring under the under bonnet fusebox usually caused by a bit up of grit on the wiring that slowly wears through the insulation then the wire corrodes and eventually fails. This usually happens if the wheel arch inspection hatch has at any point been missing for any length of time.

I asked about the rain sensing wipers because the ECU for that can cause problems but not usually the problems you are having.

Many thanks Russ. I will have to look at it sometime after Monday as I have 4 bowls matches over the next 3 days and they are all away which means it is most of the day gone.

Russ - I could not swap the relays with the heated rear screen one as it is a different configuration.
However I swapped the 2 green ones (YWB000450) over and then I did not have any working wipers. So one of the relays must be faulty. As I do not have any spares I will need to get one from Rimmers.
Thanks for your help.

Put two new relays in and still have the fault.
Will when I have a moment look at the wiring.
