Reading all these posts makes me feel like a youngster, won't be 78 until January. Intend to be driving for many years to come.

I'm probably the oldest member not driving

trimani (Alf)

I've got my driving licence back, but I'm not admitting to being in my 81st year

We have seen lots of threads asking who the youngest driver is on the forum, but do we know who the oldest driver is?

This is in no way meant as derogatory or offensive - I just thought it would be nice to celebrate those older drivers who are still going strong with the hope of giving some of the youngsters something to aspire to. (I would love to and hope to still be driving at 80!!)
Driving at 80 is no problem.

Without wishing to offend any of the, let's say, more senior drivers out there, I would like to ask their opinion on compulsory 'driving assessments' for those of a certain age. Which, as you have to reapply for your driving licence after age 70 (every 3 years) it seems logical would take place at that application and any subsequent applications.

Nothing as stringent as a normal driving test of course, just something along the lines of an eyesight test and a bit of a drive round to test competence and road safety, as much for the senior driver as everyone else.

Please don't take me wrong, I hope to god that I'm still driving in my 70's & beyond, I just wondered what peoples thoughts were on the matter.

I am a young 69 yr old,2yrs ago had to get new licence as they wanted up to date photo.
Next year at 70 another new licence(more cost for us poor pensioners).
But i agree with re test as long as it won't cost me,surprising that the powers to be haven't thought of this little money earner.
