He had had a BMW "specialist" look at repairing the missing pixels on the trip computer display (sound familiar), which had resulted in the total loss of his display.

So, not wishing to open up his second hand IKE, given that it cost about as much as I normally pay for a complete car, I set about it using the BMW scanner 1.4, normally used by us mere mortals for enabling message centre digital speedo.

Well all went swimmingly, I was able to sort out the ZCS coding mismatch by copying the EWS coding data from the EWS to the IKE, similarly I was able to replace the foreign VIN with the correct one

All I am left to do is figure out how to write the correct mileage to the eeprom, sadly like 75/ZT models, this appears to be in a secure area

Still it's not all bad, at least he doesn't need to purchase a new IKE, as they are..........now everyone sitting down......£890+coding

It certainly made a change from frabbling with Rover electronics for a change.

Incidentally, it was possible to change the SA data of the ZCS coding to reflect different factory options, of which there were many.

The conclusion, it's not quite a T4, but for £15 it was quite entertaining for me at least

Brian
What are you talking about???
Whats an IPK and or IKE? Whats ZCS and/or EWS and/or eeprom???? Dont think I have seen any of those on my 1962 David Brown!

Hi Andy.
Thank you, it turns on when you open the door, turns off again after about 40secs if the car as not been started, turns off once you lock the car, not to much routing of the wires, which have been tidy up now just inside the left panel.

This week, I have mostly been ignoring my 75(s) in favour of tinkering with a very very cheap 7-series I have misguidedly bought with a few mates.

So far, on the 'success' list we have:

Managed to convince the gearbox to work again, with a seal kit, new filter and fluid change
Fixed the headlights (remove the bumper and light assemblies to change a bulb - ffs)
Changed engine oil and filter, air and fuel filters
Replaced the power steering fluid radiator (peed on my drive one night)
Bought it a shiny pair of tyres (surprisingly cheap)
Sorted the sunroof drains that were piddling into the front footwells

Now it just need the crank pulley to hang together long enough to sliiiiide it through an MOT.

Luck? Yes please.

I didnt buy a new one but did find while sorting bout the filing cabinet full of car, house, tax stuff etc a 2003 R75 brochure with a separate price list! A few years ago I bought a tourer for £300 that wouldn't hold the charge in the battery. Turned out to be the radio/satnav that was the problem so pulled the fuse and haven't done anything to fix it (yet). The 1st R75 I bought was a basic saloon with fabric seats that had been a demonstrater and was about £10,500. The tourer had high sat nav (about £3000 as an extra, drivers seat memory, sunshine roof and cruise control. I MUST try and get more of the bits working.
