Even if you were to mess things up you’ve got Phil-T4 not so far away, spare a thought for us in foreign parts with no-one in the whole country to turn to. What I’ve learned to do with TOAF has been through experiment with my own car. Bit nervous at times even with back-ups to fall back on, but the idea of helping others with, as I mentioned, idle speed resets etc is not something I would consider unless the owner were really desperate. There are so many “secrets” within TOAF that will remain secrets unless someone helps us understand.
I feel pretty confident having had a good “play” with the BCU but the engine menu is scary. Things like VIS motors, fan relays etc are easily understood but other parts are well, scary. By-the-way, I believe the mis-match which causes “Err” is odometer (mileage) based, and that will self correct after 100kms if I’ve understood Brian correctly. Regards |

Hello
Just to confirm I have a fully functioning speedo rev counter and all 3 info panels working/displaying correctly ready to fit, so if I swap out my old one the mileage will be that of the donor and any error message will reset after a certain mileage, not really concerned as to validity of the mileage as it has just had a new not today and plan to keep her to the end of diesel cars . Thanks ian |

Swapped clock unit error mileage
My 75 had the clocks swapped in 2017 & inherited the mileage of the donor car which reads 30,000 higher than what the car has actually done.
This in itself doesn't bother me much as I have the MoT online & physical paperwork to confirm the real odometer reading & it's easy to deduct 30k from the total running total. However my trip metre permantely reads 'Err' which is irritating as I like to use it to measure my fuel consumption after each refuelling. Is their anyway to correct this; A) Myself B) Rover specialist C) A club member I could travel up to? I retain the original clock. Any help appreciated. Regards, Matty |

Hi Matty,
The err message you see is due to a vin mismatch where the replacement instrument cluster hasn't been fitted correctly. To sort this the instrument cluster will need to be virginised and then programmed in to sync the vin and mileage onto the instrument cluster. I can do this for you if you're ever down my way in Essex. Or Marinabrian can do this for you if you're ever heading up to Newcastle. |
