Default Another what is the truth thread

Always helps to know what is true and the internet contains so much useful information but how does one know if it is true when you have no idea what is true.

Question.
Can I burn wood and coal at the same time in my log burner?

Everything is a lie - the only differentiator is how much of it is a lie.

Follow the stove manufacturer's recommendations. Ours is a multi-fuel stove and came with two grates - one for coal and the other for wood. Which means they cannot be burned together at the same time.

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
Coal and logs combined — the best of both worlds Coal and logs combined — the best of both worlds
Burning coal and wood simultaneously allows you to get the best of both worlds. Coal lasts longer and produces more heat than logs, but logs have a more pleasant aroma and look far better in your wood burner. By using the two fuels together, you ensure that your fire burns for a long time at a hot temperature (thanks to the coal), but produces the same pleasantly woody aroma of a log fire. What’s more, the overall cost of the fire will be cheaper than a pure-coal fire.

I know for a FACT there are flying saucers.

Just ask my wife.-Lol.

I took the liberty of emailing both companies. I gave them each the other ones web site details and asked each of them why the other one was wrong.

I await their replies

The clue to the correct answer is how dry the wood is. If in doubt do not burn them together.

However, why do you want to burn smokeless fuel and logs at the same time?

woods gets to temperature very quickly but burns to ash just as quick. Coal takes longer to get to temperature and takes longer time to turn to ash. Burn wood first to get some heat and then switch to coal to maintain it.

We need more free wood, even if wet we can store it and use next winter but it would cut down on our fuel bill quite considerably next year. Our daughter and son in law have 2 or 3 years supply of free wood but if it comes their way will take more. We may have just a years supply. Years, winters is what I mean.

We wont buy coal again, expensive, dirty, messy and "cold". This was out first year so using wood and coal was a test

I wouldn't use either as they are both more polluting and dangerous than commercial vehicles using diesel engines!
