So tell the insurance company the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

So why do they tell us to lie in the first place, ie never own up to anything

Well according to that, I don't actually need insurance!

When I was a youngster I had a Norwich Union Rider Policy to ride any bike.

Last time I renewed my job was going all over the place (including whether I'd even have one) so I really didn't know if I'd be covering 6000 or 12000 miles. If I said 6000 but ended up doing 12000 I faced the choice of either not being covered or having to pay a massive admin and extra costs mid-year. But can you guess the response when I asked if I could get a refund if I asked for cover for 12000 but only actually covered 6000? What a swindle.

Had same with my current insurer

Unfortunately I feel insurance companies will use any 'Get Out' clause so they don't have to pay out, so as stated be upfront and honest, it may cost more initally but you'll now your covered should the unfortunate happen.

On my last renewal my insurers asked if I have had any accidents in the last 5 years, I answered no, if they asked if I had any claims in the last 5 years the answer would have been different.

Play them at their own game, scumbags.

Whichever way you look at it Rich, fact is they just don't want to pay out. They will use anything at their disposal to dodge a claim. I just get the cheapest fully comp possible and oviously keep the car road legal. As discussed this week, they're only ever gonna pay 'market value' in a non-fault write off so whats it worth?
