Default What I did today

Jacked up car, took wheels and under tray off, stripped one of the calipers as it was sticking a little bit, cleaned it all re-greased piston and rubber seals, and put it all back together again, and also took out battery and box and air filter, as I am planning on doing a gearbox oil change this week, so everything ready to do the gearbox oil change, and will be following the great how to on the forum.

Then over winter will be cleaning and checking the complete underside of the car, and intent to get a few of the underside braces stripped and power coated, and as they a few bubbles in the metal.

So got a few busy weeks ahead of me, but will give me something to do, when I retire in two weeks time

Put a new rad fan motor in and did the necessary cabling conversion and gold resistor (from a 4 wire 3 speed to a 2 wire 2 speed)

May need a revisit as it only runs at full speed (slow speed will work if I short the relay) but at least it works now

Tried to remove rear anti roll bar brackets with intention of replacing with new bushes and better bar. Failed at the first hurdle as the bolt just turned. Is the top nut supposed to be captive and welded to the body? If not how does one get a spanner on the top nut please?
Failing that, I removed a brace across the exhaust pipe tunnel and have cleaned, treated and repainted. Will leave to harden for a few days before refitting. Quite surprised how clean body is underneath. Intend to lightly rub down with Scotch pad, spray with hammerite and then spray with Dynax-50 before replacing brace.
Slowly but surely improving and life extending.

Absolutely sweet FA, instead I cut my grass which having not been touched for four weeks was quite long.

I took my dog for an eight mile hike, came home and binned a load of ECU's and other junk I'm sick of tripping over.

Tomorrow I shall have a look at the wife's car, see what else other than what I already know needs doing, and if I think I can be bothered, I'll do the work, if not I'm going to chop it in for a new car for her

There are captive nuts behind the support of the subframe that the brackets bolt on to. When replacing mine, a couple snapped loose. I am not sure how easy it would be to sort whilst on the car, but it was very easy with the subframe off, with plenty of space to use an open ended spanner (I think it was a 15mm) to hold the square nut.

If it is not accessible on the car, you may be able to lower it gently on a jack, and using m12 threaded bar to keep it all together(thanks to Dave-M's brilliant tip from HERE) to allow better access?

Anti roll bar brackets bolt nuts are indeed captive, one of my bolts snapped off. Luckily I had rear subframe out at the time, still Took over an hour to get remnants out with vice grips and oxy/acetylene.

Not today, but at the weekend, Saturday gave it a service, oil and filter etc, then Sunday a nice run out to Sheffield Park to see the autumn colours, and the Bluebell Railway to see the steam trains. Around 100 miles all told and the trip computer read 40.3mpg, not to bad I thought?
