It was suggested to me by a mechanic friend many years ago and i argued against it as i had run 2 stroke bikes in the past (many moons ago when i were a lad ) and seen the carbon build up on plugs and pistons and also the exhausts, but and its a big butt I tried it and was surprised as there wasn't any excess smoke and whether it was pshycological the engine did seem quieter and smoother but don't forget this was on an older type diesel engine the 5 cylinder audi/vw 2.5 lump and the citroen/peugeot 1.9 turbo xud engine, both engines run for many many miles in my ownership, the citroen was passed on to my brother inlaw but i had a belt tensioner fail on the volvo which took out the camshaft and pistons

Been here before, doesn't it glaze the injectors? Anyway, can't see it in the handbook, or any other manual. I know they're called oil burners but dunno if you should add oil to the mix. Injector cleaners make more sense.

Tried on 2 common rail engines now

2L 8v DW10 HDi as found in the Pug 306

2.0 M47TUD20 (Similar to the M47R)

Both seemed to loose some of the diesel clatter at idle and smoked a bit less on full chat.

The 306 was tested on and off for a few thousand miles, no ill effects. Then swapped to Biodiesel again for a couple of thousand miles, No ill effects apart from the initial blocked fuel filter.

M47TUD20 have only tried one tank so far, will be trying it again soon just to check it didn't just happen to be running better for a short period.

Didn't check the injector balance on the 306 , but M47 is fine. All well within tolerances before & after.

Does this mean you should be putting it in your tank? No, car will run without it.
Will I be putting it back in the tank? Yes for testing and if happens to make the idle less clattery then its a win

If the idle is clattery then you already have a problem.-----

If it does clear it then you have a miracle.---

At last. The myths of using 2stroke oil in Diesel engines have been found to be just that, a myth.

Not really, diesels are a pretty noisy type of combustion. Hence indirect injection and more recently on common rail direct injection - pre injection. Both are methods to try and reduce the tractory sound on idle that diesels are well known for.

Not cleared. Just reduced, more muffled if you will.

I personally would add 2T to my diesel, but only to relive my youth.

Ah, that smell of the 2-stroke CZ 250 twin burning oil at 20:1 or the Kawasaki KH250 triple.

I use Millers Diesel Power Ecomax. Recently just opened a new 5L container of the stuff. The smell of the stuff when you pour it into the tank justifies the expense before one even starts the engine.

It was always a myth, if Mr BMW wanted their diesel engines to be dosed with 2S oil they would have designed them for use in farming.
At the end of the day people do what they want with their car.
