Default Body work need some attention!

I have noticed that I have some rusty marks and bubbling appearing on my rear wheel arches and obviously want to sort this out, particularly after these last 2 weeks of solid rain! I assume that sandpapering down then maybe rustproofing before respraying is the only and best solution. it does seem to be just surface corrosion but the front wing has gone right through so I am replacing that whole but the rear isnt that easy!. thanks for reading

Default Body corrosion

I appreciate it would be a long journey down south but T J Hobbs near Ilkeston comes highly recommended and did an excellent job refurbishing the rear sill/jacking points on our Tourer.Hope this assists.

It's difficult to give an accurate answer without seeing a photo - but if the bubbling is only on the surface and originates from the inner lip of the arch where the paint can be thinner, then you can probably make it tidier by rubbing down, priming, carefully touching it in (cheap). This avoids having to spray & the difficulties of blending the new paint into the old

However, if the corrosion is coming through from the inside of the panel, then any 'cosmetic' repair to the outer surface won't last very long. If it's rusting through, the ONLY long term solution is to cut out the affected area, going right back to good metal, and replace with new steel, painting & rust proofing as required (expensive).

It is pretty rare to see a 75 with badly rusted arches though - infact, I can't remember ever seeing one so hopefully you might be lucky and get away with a small touch-up repair.

If you want to post up a pic, it'll help to confirm what's what

That does look fairly advanced and I'd be pretty certain that some of those bubbles will go through if you start poking at them

However, it's unusual to see bad rust on 75 arches, so makes me wonder if the panel has had a previous repair with a substandard paint finish ? I think you'll need to carefully rub it back & see if it goes through. A spot grit blaster could be helpful here, as it'll take any corrosion out of the pitted surface (but equally, it'll blow right through if the rust is bad).

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you...
