I know it's not, if you look at the photo Simon commented that it looked like a bit of hose just below the jubilee clip but that's the original clip the last boy just left there.

Thanks for your post Thomas.

Your first post gave me the impression you were asking for someone else.
I was beginning to doubt myself as I was the only one to mention it.---

It's seriously overheating. Since you've tested the fan I'd be looking next at the thermostat. Does it have a PRT (Pressure Relief Thermostat)? That's the plastic device with three hose connections positioned just behind the radiator.

First of all Thomas ask the owner if the car's had any work done on the cooling system at a garage. When a PRT is fitted there should be no thermostat present in the conventional position on the RHS of the engine (at the back of the engine compartment). Sometimes folk think it's been removed and fit one. The engine then has two thermostats with disastrous results!

Hi Simon cars only got 20k, someone has been at it judging by the jubilee clips. Would the prt being faulty cause the cooling system to pressurise?

Hi Thomas,

I don't see any evidence of abnormal pressurisation, this engine is just seriously overheating. I'd first open the conventional thermostat housing to make sure a 'stat hasn't been put in there.

Double stat jeopardy - in pre 2004 1.8's as PRT's fitted from 2004.
