I can remember a neighbour, when I was very young, asking my dad to swap places in the car parking area where we lived. He was wanting to service the car, and my dad's car was parked in front of the drain! He drove it up the kerb, and dropped the oil straight into it! The days of innocence Thinking back, that drain cover had no corrosion on it compared to the others! lol

There's bleach for example! Also, are we to believe that because OAT is "organic", that it's safe for disposal in the public sewerage system? Simon

Waste oil should never be dumped in street gullies. Commonly two sewer systems exist - foul and surface water. Many street gullies are connected to the surface water system and these normally outfall to rivers and brooks.
Oil in rivers and brooks is so common, especially in parts of London. Once oil gets in a watercourse, it will kill any life in there stone dead. Luckily there are big fines for idiots who drop substances other than rainwater into gullies.
