Mine is March 2005 and came with the strap so long after project drive.

I heard that the very last cars used up an assortment of remaining parts, not necessarily the ones specified.

Have you considered the actual petrol cap might not be the original item, plenty of pattern stuff out there on the internet

No it was definitely supplied when the car was new.Others on this thread say they have a strap fitted too. I posted a pic last week of a used cap on eBay with the strap attached but I've deleted it now.

Had a look at one as mine has snapped, they connect in the middle of the fuel cap whereasmy mk1 connects on the edge

I messaged him and he said he only supplies the chords that connect to the filler cap in the middle, i will have to keep looking

Ronnie in post #9 has a MK1 have a word with him.

Is it not the same push in fixing even though a different position on the cap?

Yup, when mine arrived it didn't fit properly, kept slipping out of the hole in the cap - the hole (which on mine is in the edge of the finger grip 'leg', not in the cap centre) is too big. Not done it yet but a simple solution would be to drill a smaller hole in the edge of the other 'leg'.

So, in other words these are not a Rover oem re-manufactured item? Probably an oem part from another source or a generic thing!
