To be fair, there might not have been much he could have done. If death was immediate then there would be no point in jacking the car up and dragging his mate clear. Dialing 999 from one's phone is traceable and time stamped. So it would have to an anonymous call from a public phone box and where are you going to find one of them nowadays?

I'm concerned that I might become a victim as the "scouts" will have noticed a covered car that is not used daily.

Best thing is to put a tilt alarm on the car. If it is jacked up on one side, like they normally do, it will activate the tilt alarm.
