Went to a 4x4 motor jumble sale in Newbury on Sunday from Suffolk. counted about 16 tankers on the A12 and the Essex bit of the M25 but only 1 for the rest of the journey.

Thoughts to increase fuel deliveries.
1. let the max gross weight of tankers increase; most of the time they are on major roads. Dont know if a tankers tanks will carry more than the current max gross vehicle weight?
2 let the drivers work longer hours (if they want to?)
3 let tankers use bus lanes so they dont sit about in traffic queues!

Also why wait until the fuel "crisis" is just about over before getting the army in????

Come the revolution when I am queen !!!!

A couple of good suggestions there

The Army personnel will have to undergo training as most of the Army's HGV force will not be certificated for fuel transfers and haulage. The Army does have some certified personnel but there is no point in pinching them from their present, or possible, duties. Their primary duty is to re-fuel tanks and such in flying ordinance hot-zones)

Well for now we seem to be able to fill up with fuel as and when we want. You can see it could very easily happen again. Perhaps we will all be canny from now on and keep our tanks topped up. It’s gas outages for our industry that’s in the headlines now, on top of the huge increase in price. We can expect a rough ride this winter. Best to be prepared so that we don’t get caught short.

You are lucky, we still have problems around here. Luckily one had fuel today but if not I would have not been able to work today,

I was in Bedford yesterday, some had Petrol but there was no Diesel I could find.

Pulled into my local Shell station today - no queue and no limit on amount. Had a wry smile - no wretched E10 - only E5 and both grades of diesel.

One can only hope that they are totally boycotted once things return to normal, and they go out of business. But as it's South Kensington I don't suppose the locals even notice the price.

last week filled one car up but was only allowed £35, later in the week when that car was off the road I used my other car and there was no limit on the amount of fuel and no queue, put in about £50 of diesel but it was a different petrol station in a different area.

Further to my earlier post managed to fill up this morning without there being a queue and there was a fuel tanker at the petrol station presumably unloading?? Any wait. It was marked above each of its 6 tanks 7000 litres. A quick search through the web shows the SG of diesel between 0.81 and 0.96 and petrol between 0.68 and 0.74. I presume the heavier diesel is for big engines such as found on ships and the lighter "petrol" is aviation spirit. An articulated truck/lorry whatever weighs about 10 tonnnes and the max weight of a vehicle on UK roads is 44 tonnes so there isn't much volume to carry more fuel. Back to the drawing board!!!

I have a story to tell about this petrol shortage, Well, just as it kicked off, i had to go over to some out in the sticks place in Sussex to view, buy, then drive home my new rover 75, When i picked it up, the low fuel light was on, and i thought , no way would i get home on what was left, So, Nearest place being Hailsham, i passed one petrol station, closed, so drove on, found one that was open, joined the queue , to be told, we are only serving essential workers like NH'S, fire police etc, I happen to work for Sussex police as an contractor, but didn't have my police id on me, so got refused, even though the gauge was by this point well into the red, anyway i drove on, Passed two more closed petrol stations, thinking, try to get to Bexhill where if i had to, i could leave the car, and get a train back to Hastings, Anyway just outside of Bexhill i found a station that was open, and was selling fuel, so i put in £20, enough to get me home and into work for the next week,I must by this time have been on vapour
