Sure enough I reved it a few times and the whine had completely disapeared - oh joy. Thats the good news.

The bad news is that as the day wore on and the day became hotter and hotter it quickly became aparent that while the whine had gone, so had any ability to produce cool air, and we had to drive around with the windows open just to avoid melting.

So what to do next ? I am now far too attatched to the car (not as painfull as it sounds) to just take it back to the dealer and ask for my money back - but I do need this fixing, and doing properly.

John

Either no Gas left or your compressor belt has snapped.

I have just phoned the dealer where I brought the car from and explained the problem I was having.

Rather to my surprise he was most apologetic and immediately said he would get it fixed for me. He apparently uses an Air Con specialist in Derby and said he would get him to ring me to arrange a convenient time for it to go in.

15 min later I got a call from the specialist, and the car is now booked in for Tuesday morning.

I will let you know how I get on !

Just picked up the car from the Air Con specialist in Derby and the Air Con is now working perfectly.

Mind you, so it should do as the specialist had fitted an new compresor, a new condensor, and then serviced the whole system under the bonnet and inside the car. Sounds like the fan was the only thing that was actually working properly !

I cannot fault it, and I dread to think how much it cost. Fortunately the whole bill was paid by the dealer who sold me the car. I consider myself very lucky indeed.

If anyone in the Derby area needs someone to look at a car aircon system, I would highly reccomend this chap - as his card says - "Obscure faults a speciality"!
