Default Can't get cruise control to work - any ideas ??

I have spent the afternoon reto-fitting cruise control to my conny CDTi tourer. Initially all went well - the wiring loom was there so both the switch and ECU just plugged in, and the only difficult bit was fitting the cruise switches to the steering wheel (had to cut a notch in the plastic)

So - took the car out to test and clicked to cruise swich on (green light came on) then clicked "res" button and cruse light on dash came on. So far so good - but then clicked on "set" - and nothing happened. I knew it was too go to be true !

I know the "res" function will not work until it is enabled by a T4 session - but from the advice I have been given I was expecting the "set" switch to work .

I then decided to have a look if the clutch and brake switches were present - and I must admit I can't see them, but I dont know what I am looking for. Has anyone got a photo of the location of the swtches so I can check what should be there.

What I did find is a white male connector block hanging down with yellow, pink, black and green wires going into it. Could this be part of the problem ?

All advice gratefully welcomed

Does sound like you have the sensor missing from the clutch pedal.

I had a problem with my cruise when I first got it and someone put some good diagrams in there, let me just find it for you and come back....

Thanks Chris

I will have another look over the weekend armed with that info.

I don't suppose you know if the electrical connector I mentioned is supposed to be connected to the clutch switch (or is it for something else entirely)

Hi I fitted the retro CC years ago and it could be the clutch switch that wants repositioning by grasping the switch and pushing upwards you should hear a clicking noise.
Although the CC is not fully functional ie; no resume it works like this:
1 switch on CC -green light should come on
2.press resume -motorway icon appears
3 press + and the speed is set >29MPH
4.press resume -disable CC
5 double press resume -all off

It does sound like the connector for the clutch pedal sensor.

I have been trying to find a wiring diagram which covers the cruise system of my 2004 CDti - but it does not seem to appear in the Haynes manual I have.

Does anyone know where I could get one ??

I think the switch for the clutch is the same as the brake. They are very reliable switches with no moving parts but they have been know to go faulty as in may case with my clutch switch
