Default Oil Filter - would you use this one

I have just done my first oil change on Rory and brought the oil and filter from Euro Car Parts taking advantage of the forum discount.

When I came to unpack the oil filter I found that instead of "O" rings at each end as I expected it had "felt" pads instead.

I was not sure about this - so I popped to Halfords and brought another, this time with "O" rings.

What do you think - is the filter OK to use or should I return it to Euro Car Parts and ask for a replacement ?

Incidentally BOTH filters came with the wrong size of copper washer (too small) - so I had to reuse the old one. Where can you get the proper size washers ?

I would not fit that filter with felt pads it may be ok but it is different to a OEM type so why risk it? ECP only list two filters for the R75 diesel a Bosch & a Guttmann. Your one is a Hengst

I never buy pattern parts when the OEM are available for the same price or often cheaper.

A genuine MGR oil filter for a R75 diesel is £6 delivered on ebay supplied by an X part dealer. It also includes the washer which will be the correct size!!

I agree with capese - I wouldn't risk fitting that filter as it looks quite different.

It's correct that Guttmann or Bosch filters were originally fitted by BMW.

BMW OE filters are now almost exclusively either Mahle or Mann.

I checked that out during a visit to the engine plant in Steyr.

Both are available from Opie Oils - great price with our club discount.

BMW are also using Fuchs Titan Oil now.

Hope that helps.

Caio,

Singvogel.
