Another attempt at my sticky lifter
Here's what i tried, oil flush, new oil with wynnes valve and lifter cleaner, then another oil change.
any one got any idea's of what to try, have read on other forums that adding transmission fluid to the oil would help sort it out. What oil is best for my 1.8 none turbo. |

Hi Michael,
I vaguely remember your thread about this. Have you used Comma Flushing Oil* in between draining and refilling with clean oil? If not, try that. If it doesn't work then you may have to locate the faulty hydraulic tappet and renew it. Recommended engine oil grades and specifications for all engines have been quoted frequently on the forum and are in your owner's handbook I think. Simon. * Available from good motor factors.

That looks absolutely fine to me. Sorry, somehow I thought from your first posting that you'd used a flushing additive which you didn't. Perhaps you're going to have to remove the hydraulic tappets and inspect them. Maybe the culprit is blocked by something which the flushing oil hasn't been able to dislodge. Soaking them in paraffin or Gunk should do the trick. Simon.

I know what you mean.
What sort of use does the car get and what's its maintenance history? Infrequent oil changes can cause horrible sludge to collect in the sump. Simon.

Do an oil + filter change and use a 5w/40 fully synthetic oil. This oil has better cleaning properties than the mineral and semisynthetic oils and migth loose sticky lifter after being used for a while. I only use fully syntethic oil on mine.
Take a look at this picture: Its not a Rover engine, but this engine had 175000miles on the clock and have only been run on fully synthetic oils from new. Still running very well. Could it be cleaner?? |
