Axle stand support

Where do people here place axle stands after jacking the car up. I'm currently trying to check the handbrake drum and rear brakes, but after jacking the car up i don't see anywhere obvious to put the axle stand. I noticed a link in the "check here first" about it but the only pics were for the V8 or one with it on the jack point but i obviously can't do that because that's where i'm jacking it up from. Look like someone has tried before at the fornt and pushed part of the sills in so i'm not too sure it won't do the same at the rear!

I usually use one of the four sub-frame 'attachment points' with a piece of wood between the stand and the sub-frame.

Haynes manual suggests rear towing eye as a safe jacking point. I use a trolley jack under the tow bar on mine to raise the whole rear then axle stands with wood blocks under the rear side jack pads (sill). Least you can remove both rear wheels. Hope you've better weather than here !. lol

Thats front and rear, and I sometimes use a trolley jack at those points as well.

Mike,

Under the sills, close to the wheelarch, you should have rectangular rubber pads, two on each side. These are the official body supporting points for axle stands and garage hoists.

As above replies, place them under the scissor jack points with the rubbers.

To jack up the back of the car using a trolly jack you may need to raise the height of the jack - I lay down blocks on the floor and put the jack on the blocks.

So it seems the best way is to use the centre jacking point at the back then put the axle stands on the jacking points on either side. I couldn't do that unfortunately as my jack barely got to the jack point before stopping because it's too small. It will have to wait until a can get borrow my dad's larger jack

Got any odd lengths of 4x2 or similar. Its possible to build up a platform for the jack to sit on. I happen to have a 3ft length of 6x6 from years ago that comes in very handy at times...

Anyone prepared to raise the front (or rear) using a central jacking point and high enough to insert axle stands under the sill rubbers is a much braver man than me.
