Default Why do people do this

Went shopping at my local supermarket the other week and came back to the car only to find some lovely person of dubious birth had inflicted not one but 2 wounds to the beloved old girl in the form of a scratch the full length of the front and rear passenger doors it was deep enough to go down to the metal, lovely. To say I was **** OFF is an under statement, its going to cost me £250 excess on the insurance to get it sorted if I use them and local body shop has quoted £400-£500 as they have to take it right back due to the depth of the scratch, I was wondering if it was beyond economical repair as I have heard of our cars being written off for the slightest damage.

Hi,

Mine was damaged in a similar way but the rear door is stoved in not just scratched, and the car has a metal deep scratch all down the passenger side and the insurance company were going to repair the car (good news) but I would have lost my no claims and as this was a week before the insurance ran out I decided to not proceed with the claim.

So long story short they don't always write it off and if they want to withdraw the claim.

It might be cheaper to try and find a couple of doors in your colour?

This kind of thing makes me livid, just once I would love to catch someone doing this.....

Really sorry about your pride and joy, jealously is an ugly emotion.

Swisstony is right, it's nowt but jealousy.

Would it be possible to insure the 75's under a classic insurance policy?
And would that make any difference?
I was reading an article in practical classics regarding an oldish jag that wasn't on a classic policy and was written off for very little after a rear end shunt.
I'll see if I can fish it out and see what the outcome was.

Don't bother with your Insurance, simply find a decent Bodyshop who'll do it for less money!

I know that locally, I would be able to get that done for £300 absolute max and you wouldn't be able to tell it'd been painted afterwards either!
