75 vs X-type
Hello guys, just want to know Your opinion.
I have nice Rover 75 2001 2.0 v6 with low mileage (about 40k miles). Another British cars lover offered to me swapping: My Rover to Jaguar X-Type 2003 (FWD, 2.1 v6, 2003, touchscreen radio, fabric interior, one front fender and bumper needs some work or replacement, because have serious scratch). But.. 31k mileage! This is my dilemma. Is it worth to swap? My Rover: |

having just scrapped 54 plate X-Type with massive rot in the cills I would san not a hope
I find the build quality of the 75 / ZT to be better more comfortable on long drives the X-type being 2 years newer than my ZT (ok higher mileage) was having all sorts of problems hence the decision to scrap it just my opinion

Definitely keep the Rover- X-types were cheap Jaguars made by Ford to Ford quality standards - they rot out, the electrics are unreliable and DMFs on the diesels fail. I thought about buying one after Rover production stopped, even tried a Jaguar XJ for a while (nice car, but a bit temperamental and very expensive to run/fix), before coming back to 75s.

If ever there was a car that's like a chinese egg then then the X-type has to be it Even immaculate looking low mileage ones very often have sills that are so rotten behind those plastic sill covers that they're often un-economic to repair. I'd be very, very careful about buying or swapping yours for one.

The rust that hides in X Types has to be seen to be believed. These cars aren't perfect, but they are far superior to these pretend Jaguars.

As has been said rot boxes and when they go wrong the parts are very expensive. Even something as simple as a rear wheel bearing can cost £200 in parts alone on some and they have slightly altered it so the Ford item wont fit.
