Typhoon under articificial lighting
Took some photo's of my Typhoon on display at the MG & Triumph Spares Day on Sunday in Stoneleigh park. Didn't realise the show was indoors, was amazing to see how different Typhoon is under artificial lighting. Much darker and you could spot the flip from the other end of the hall. Was really nice to see

Apologies if this is a slight deviation from the theme but it is relevant to the issue of the special MG finishes.
Back in the 70s and 80's the Candy Apple range of metal flake, flip-flop (like Typhoon) and candy (tinted lacquer over a base coat) was all the rage in the custom car scene. I painted my V6 Ford Pop in candy scarlet over pearl black to achieve a wonderful burgundy wine effect and my wife's Consul Capri was done in the same candy scarlet over a silver base. All done in the open, picking out the dead flies where we could. Both cars won best paint awards at various shows but when other half (girlfriend at the time) scraped the n/s rear wing I knew I'd never get a match so, rather than try and fail, I redid the whole car in BMW lipstick red. Personally I'm not a fan of the flip-flop finish but a good candy apple finish takes some beating. The look we were after Our Capri, scanned from an old photo. 1981 I think. |

I saw the car at the Triumph/MG show last week (Wanted to meet you to congratulate you on it, as it looks even better in the flesh, but perhaps another time). It is fabulous, and even the journey up didn't wreck your efforts!
I was on the Triumph 2000 Owners Stand - did you see our fabulous Rally Car? One car I would really like to add to my fleet, but yours runs it close! |
