Rear brakes pads only cleaning 1/2 disc
Hi I got new pads and discs fitted to the rear and only the outer half of the disc Approx half of the pad width is getting cleaned by the pad, so I assume that the pad isn’t seating squarely, any help ?

Are you sure they are the right pads?

The rivet securing the clip on the pad which pushes into the caliper piston, isn't in the correct place, causing the whole shoot to cant over slightly
I've seen this on a number of occasions now, generally with "Mintex" and Eicher pads If you wait long enough, around 700-800 miles the pads will bed in in a slight wedge shape, nothing to worry about particularly Brian |

Thanks everyone they are the right paid pads, only done around 100 miles so far,Brian would it be worth it to strip down and grind the rivet or just leave it all alone ?
Thanks

This have happened to me to. It was caused by rust flakes inside the calipper "claw", making the pad not fit squarely to the disc. Proper cleaning should be done upon assembly. Using a flat screwdriver and wire brush first to get all the loose rust off the inside of the caliper claw and piston and then flatten using a file if necessary.

I would not accept that from a set of new pads and discs Rob. If the pads have a manufacturing fault, as has been suggested, then you should show your garage the evidence and ask them to fit another brand which does not.
I have to say that I find the view expressed above that an incorrectly seating brake pad is "nothing to worry about particularly" is not the sort of advice which would impress me concerning a safety critical part. Get the job done properly Rob, "for peace of mind" as I often read here. Simon

Tick tock tick tock If the OP is concerned about it, he can as you suggest rush back to the garage and have them redo the job, however how many cars have you seen where the discs are so crusty that the swept area is diminished severely and the brakes still work perfectly well? Another couple of hundred miles and this phenomenon will have disappeared, I have to say it was one of the things that least impressed me about the braking systems on these cars, but then again I'm used to non servo assisted drum brakes Brian |
