Default Front Seat removal

Gentlemen, I'm trying to remove the front seats from my Rover 75 Connaissour and have followed the instruction to remove the battery because of the danger of activating the airbag. My question is now that in order to move the seats forward and backwards to get acces to the bolts, I cannot do that as the seats are electrically controlled. Is it possible to move the seats manually? Thanks, Chris Varming

You don't need to worry about the battery until you need to disconnect the airbag leads under the seat so reconnect it to move the seat backwards and forwards to gain access to the bolts then disconnect once you have them undone.

Is it the case you wait 20 to 30 minutes after disconnecting battery before touching any air bag for safety ?

I have never disconnected my battery to remove the seats, but I am not saying you shouldn't disconnect the battery if it makes you feel safer, removed mine only a couple od days ago to sort out the air bag light

I didn't when i changed my seats over recently and had no problems but i am also not suggesting that you shouldn't.

In the Haynes manual it says there is a supply back up for the airbags. The 20-30 minute wait is to let that discharge before disconnecting the airbags. Personally I disconnect the battery every time I touch anything electrical in the car.
EDIT - you will find disconnecting under the seat easier if you unfasten the front bolts first, then the rear ones. I use an old headrest under each rail to hold the seat up while I disconnect. Also remember there is a wire on a strong spring which also has to be taken off the seat before you can get it out of the door. The wire is to tell the seat belt system where the seat is so it gets the tension right if needed.

I have never experienced a problem removing the seats with the battery connected, but then again, I like the risk

reminds me of the days in the mob..don't touch the black and yellow stripped handle unless you want to take a trip through the hanger roof..

Trikey, bet you get Lord Rover over for those jobs.

I've read it a few times, when working on say a steering wheel, disconnect the battery go have a nice cup of tea for 20 minutes or more..

Just make sure you’ve got the right tool for the seat bolts. I found a standard Torx 50 didn’t grip well enough and had to order a Torx plus one from ebay (no-one seemed to have them locally).

Or of course you could borrow mine. Pm me if interested or email by checking out the buy/sell section of roverklubben.se (latest ad).
