Default 75 Key replacement.

Hi

Just bought a 75 but it only has one key. Had a quote from a local locksmith shop of £280. Does this sound correct?

Thanks in advance.

You can get them cut online . See adverts on ebay where you send a photo and they wll be cut exactly for you. Your main issue is getting a fob and transponder coded to the car . Big russ on here may be able to assist you there,as he is a trader on here. There are other members who may be able to assist you if you do a search on here. T4 or similar will be needed or you can read a few of the past threads regarding a new key purchase from BMW.

Have my doubts about a local locksmith being able to produce a key. Firstly you'd need a remote locking printed circuit board (PCB) and a virgin transponder, must be a new transponder as once they have been programmed an internal fuse pops and they can't be rewritten. The serial number of the PCB has to be entered into the car's security system either by T4 or TOAF. Then the EWS (immobiliser system) in the car has to be read using specialised equipment/software and data transferred to the new transponder. Some places will claim to do a key but only clone the existing transponder which will work for so long then fall out of sync with the EWS rendering the "new" key useless.

As suggested contact Russ. He did a key for my 260, don't think he can cut the blade though, certainly didn't use to. A good, independent, locksmith will do that for you.

If you just get a key cut it will only open the door using the lock - it will not start the car. In order to start the car you will need a transpoder paired to your EWS.

I have an original Valeo unused key for sale which has an original, unused ready to program transponder (not Chinese copy of transponder). This key would come with the original blade which will be useless to you. As has been said above you can have a blade cut on Ebay from a photo for £10 I have used this service and it is excellent.
If you send your EWS I will program the transponder to your car FOC.
The cost of the key is £65 and includes an unused remote, which you would code to your car using TOAF.

If you could get Big Russ to provide you with a key that would be your best option in my opinion.

Tommy :-)

You need a trip to Liversedge to see BigRuss, spare key all coded, replacement case for old, T4 session for error/problem checking... £60... And he does a cracking brew too! 🙂
