Which head gasket type did you fit elastomer or MLS , Did you renew the head bolts ?
MLS Gaskets have been known to leak between the multi layers
Personally I would only fit the improved elastomer type , They are more forgiving for liner heights and imperfections within the mating surfaces than the MLS Gasket

Exactly this ^^

The MLS is less reliable than the elastomer ones in my 17 years with K series. I had a brand new MLS instantly fail at the front corner of the engine below the exhaust manifold, it was a faulty gasket and instantly leaked coolant.

MLS in my 1.8 T now has failed after 2000 miles and I suspect it’s because the MLS was fitted to either a warped/pitted head, or low liner heights prior to me owning the car.

I’m not convinced the leak shown is the cause of the hard acceleration problems though.

Have you replaced the coils with brand new OE ones? New HT leads and new plugs gapped at 0.6mm?

I’d suspect the boost solenoid valve next if the above have been replaced.

the Image is not too clear - where do you have the leak ?

I can see a bit of Red just above the Alternator Support Bracket (lower area in the image) looks a bit like sealant this would be the Cam Carrier Seal rather than the HeadGasket tho..

Paul.

Will agree with image not been clear ,and that stain been the Cam carrier area as any head gasket leak would be below the manifold .My comment on the MLS was a general observation I have experienced. Monitoring the coolant level will confirm either way !
As mean and green commented , if leaking it is unlikely to be causing the running problems which at the engine speeds he describes still suggests turbo control pipework issues as I believe
the ignition side been addressed from earlier posts

Hi all!

I fitted the multi layer one, and did replace the head bolts

Sorry for the picture quality! Let me upload a better one

Since replacing the purge control valve it hasn't faulted, which is great! But it does still run a little rough from cold. The coil pack replacement hasn't done anything unfortunately.

im going to have to do the head gasket again, this time I'll use the one you guys have suggested. Is there a kit it comes in with all the gaskets?

Personally as you have just done the job once you will probably find you can get away with just a Head Gasket and inlet manifold Gasket as the other gaskets will just remove and reinstate .
What I would have a good look at is the inlet manifold at each end (cylinders 1 & 4 ) as there is a water jacket in the head and can leak water into the inlet manifold and can cause miss fire / rough running from start
