Cool The electrical issues are back……..

……………………….on Banana. No fuel pump running unless I wiggle the fuel pump relays.

Is it possible to change the under glovebox fuse/relay panel with another one from a MK1? The one that is in has had the terminals cleaned and tightened up.

Changing the under bonnet relay fuse/panel seems straightforward enough. We have had that one out before and cleaned all the terminals.

Hoping to get the car back to Matt’s this coming Saturday to get it sorted out.

All advice welcome.

Hello Bob,
This issue has been too regular to be a simple fix in my mind, but here are a few ideas worth considering.....
Is there too much draw on the circuit for fuel pump side of things.
Has wiring been checked for poor earthing.
Have the relays been replaced with new ones instead of used ones.
Is there any signs of past or present water ingress where the relay is located.
Has the engine been re-mapped beyond the scope of the fuel pump delievry safe operating strategy (Too much draw).
Is the right fuel pump fitted or an aftermarket one that is over doing the job on standard wiring that cannot keep up with the pump demands.

A few worth having throughly checking to create a proper conclusive fix that never re-appears.

I know plenty of folks here may have advised this, but it may be worth spending more £ to get the yellow thing more reliable.

New relays fitted.
Wiring has been checked but think an auto electrician needs to have a good look.
Car was re-mapped back in 2012.
No sign of any water getting in.
Fuel pump was replaced a long time back.

So it may be possible that the demand placed on the fuel pump itself could be enough to cause problems on the electrcal system supporting the elivated fuel pressures placed on original design peramiters hence the need for replacement fuel pump, and a relay or two, the contacts on the relay housing may be compromised, hence the wiggle may work for a short time only until it gets to a critical point, where it breaks down supplies of juice to the goose !

Looks to be a fault with the fuel pump. Going to get a new pump and get the fuel filter replaced as well.
