Default FBH - fuel consumption/operating when warm

It’s not cold enough for the FBH but occasionally I smell a whiff of exhaust and my fuel consumption whilst ok is not what I expect - could it be linked?

I wouldn't have thought so, if the FBH was running all the time it would soon flatten the battery because it would try to keep it warm all the time, engine running or not.

Could be leaking fuel tho

Check by touching the FBH exhaust, be very careful tho, it gets extremely hot as you can imagine

I thought I’d try the FBH tonight, sat in the car, key out, hit the fire button on the controller and it fired up and turned the heater control panel on. When I got home (2.5C outside temp) it ran on briefly after locking the car.
I think it seems to be working OK, I’ve googled GSM upgrades for it, not sure what to do next - do I still need to couple the gsm to the fascia control panel? Where can I source a GSM controller?
I’ve found a couple of threads on here but I’m not sure about the parts I need with the kit I already have.

My GSM unit sits in the glove box, right at the back.

Its all controlled by text messages

I dont have the controller. You could just turn on/off the fbh by text, or you could (like mine) also make a few connections to the control panel, which could also be switched on via the text.

Example, one text will turn on the fbh, then when it has warmed up a bit, it then switches on the interior blowers to warm up the interior of the car. It will all switch off after 20 mins to avoid fattening the battery.

They do run on after use to purge the combustion chamber I believe. Around two minutes sometimes. I have a manual switch on the console which i can use at anytime. Very handy now the car is on sorn. Soon brings the temp up so I can let it run with a few revs put on to help keep everything working..

A whiff of exhaust, and fuel consumption not being what you expect, could be because the clocks have gone back a hour.

FBH used for 15min every morning for a week will use 1.2L

Default FBH - fuel consumption/operating when warm

Yesterday I spent an hour or so sorting my rear wiper, as the spigot had jammed in and wasn’t hooking up to the dial. In doing so the rear window now sits tighter - leading me to think it was letting a little exhaust in. The exhaust smell I noticed was more like normal emissions, not the paraffin type smell I now know is the FBH. Our trains user Eberspacher Pre heaters which are fully automatic and kick in at the most inopportune moment, like in a station with the doors open - so I’m used to it!

Spot on, it was an hour out! Not sure how to set it - but a GSM link would be invaluable as I work shifts and start/finish all hours of the day & night. It would be super handy to text the car in time to warm it up when leaving at 3am!

Not sure what I’m doing wrong - if I press the fire button all is good and it kicks in straight away. But when I set the timer it doesn’t operate. After setting the time how should I leave it? I’ve also got two timers set, how do I delete the second one?

With timer set, if it is not cold enough will it fire up?
