Been asked to put up some photos of my home town, during the time of the iron and coal boom. The 1st and 4th are of the workers, the 5th is the company shop where the workers, who were paid in tokens had to buy their goods with tokens, the owner of the shop also owned the companies where they worked. The 6th photo shows a tunnel, where there was a rail track to bring the iron ore and coal from the mountainside down to the Foundries. Behind the tunnel there was this great building "The Workmens Library." paid for by the workers. The council, in their wisdom demolished this in the 60s and put up a cabin, for the residents to hold meetings.
