Possible 75 purchase
I've been a long term member on here for years but lost my original login a while ago.
I've been offered through a friend a 2002 Touring diesel for "not a lot of money". The friend has suggested that the person selling it might be asking a few hundred for it-but who knows! The person who owns the car has had it for many years and is at an age where he is getting rid of his cars and wants them to go to good homes. The only info I have at the moment is the reg number which is WN52KTG . Not sure if its a CDT or CDTi. It is an auto. It's done 155,000 but not a lot in the last few years. I'm going to have a look next week. Any advice on how these cars handle high miles will be greatly appreciated as well as any other info. I'll report back when I know more. Regards Steve |

Hi Steve,
There's a buyer's guide if that's any help? https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...ad.php?t=75282 The diesel engines seem to be quite capable of high mileages, there's several out there with 200k+ miles. The core engine is regarded as very stout, but some of the ancillaries around it can fail. Check that both electric fuel pumps (under the bonnet and in the fuel tank) are working. Check the sills carefully for corrosion, particularly around the jacking points. Also check that the plenum drains are clear and that the ECU isn't sitting in water.

Being a 52 registration it is more likely than not a mk1. My diesel was registered in December 2002, more likely than not by a dealer, then it was bought the following March if I remember correctly. The engines on these diesels are a BMW derivation, and are of themselves been proven to cover large mileages. One is known to have done over 500,000 miles up the north.mine has only done 115,000 miles, and between oil changes does not use any oil. My friend has an earlier one, and that also uses no oil. Also been very reliable, including touring on the continent of Europe.

Thanks all,
apparently its the 115bhp version so if I do buy it will be on the lookout for a Ron box or similar. I'll give it a good look over. Its to temporarily replace my Sierra which I use daily (had it 24 years) so I can do a bit of work on it. Will most probably keep the Rover as always wanted one. Regards Steve |

After the refinement of the Rover you won't want to go back to the Sierra , I have a diesel 115, and their not the fastest cars out there, but for ease of driving, it make up for it, MPG, is about 60 on a long run, as others have said, look at the jacking points, and sills, their not known to be rust buckets, engines are BMW and serving is straightforeward, you don't need a special spanner either to undo the oil filter, theres a 15mm hex moulded into the cap, and its on the top , so oil changes are easy, parts are not too bad brakes are easy to do, except for the rear caliper bolts, they are a nightmere, but there are ways round it, handbrakes are drum, on the hub, of the disk, and need to be adjusted at the drum, not on the cable,

BigRuss does the upgrades (postal service available, need to send him the ECM), not sure who else is doing them these days but others should be able to advise if there's someone nearer you. |

Going by the MOT history, I would say that since 2017
there appears to be a reluctance to have much money spent on it, Is there another member nearby one with the knowledge to check it through? Dave |
