rear damper bolts
does anyone know what the bolt thread size is for the rear damper to hub bolts on the rover 75 kv6 stock hub. they are called dog nose !! or similar name. the size looks like it may be an english size as the nearest size in metric is 14 +mm x 2mm pitch. im looking to buy a tap just in case i have problems with a job coming up and needed to run a tap through . 14 + mm threads i have seen but up to 1.75 pitch only . never 2.0 so im thinking it may be an oddball size that rover have used ? anyone ?

just a word of warning, they can be cross threaded when put back in so be careful.
As for needing a tap, I would be surprised, they are quite a thread to ruin macafee2 |

thanks for the reply. i have just ammended the above thread after remeasuring again. i have not got exact readings as my tools are not handy. the thread is definitely slightly over 14mm dia and the pitch looks 2mm or thereabouts. the only size that comes near is 9/16ths. bsw ? the reason im asking is i recall having a problem before on one hub and it may have like you have already pointed out tried to go in crossed. i sorted it out last time but just in case i needed to rerun a tap im trying to find the exact thread size and type.do you know if rover would have used such an alternative thread or size not being metric ? thanks again for your reply.

Thread in the trailing arm to mount the rear shocker is M14 x 2.0 (standard pitch)
I had an issue with a stripped thread. I bought a helicoil kit, but wasn't able to drill out from under the car directly down the original. Really need a drill jig. I got a replacement trailing arm and refurbished off the car in the end. |

Yes I have had the same thing happen - the old bolt picked up on the way out damaging the hole thread. Luckily I had the correct tap to hand which had been bought in error a few months before for another job.
Ran the tap through the hole and it cleaned up perfectly. |

I’m guessing (and it’s only a guess) that the bolts will be the same length, where the bolt passes through the dampener is only a couple of mm thick so shouldn’t require a bolt of a different length.

yes andy i think you may well be right.the end of the bolt is a dog face which is stepped down and unthreaded which possibly allows it to enter the end space thats vacant if no bush is required. thankyou andy. ....
