Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Is this any better. I really need someone who has done the soldering to tell me if the pins were connected to anything else.

Yes! Assuming the wider part of the plug is uppermost in that photo, pins 7 & 8 are the two right most pins.

. --------- <- these last two pins are 7 & 8.
\ ---------/

Usually the pins will be numbered in the plastic molding somewhere. 7 appears to be soldered to the PCB, 8 appears to not even contact the PCB at all.

7 and 8 aren't connected to anything. So back to my original question is the soldering of these pins to complete a loop for the car rather than anything readable from the cable. It's a vag kkl cable. I copied it from start of this thread and ordered using copy and paste into ebay.

I really have no idea, but if it is the correct unit, just solder the wires on the unit and it will work. If neither pin really don't have internal connection to the unit, then the link must be for the car itself. Just have some faith, that it works and does what it says on the tin.

Pin 7 definitely should be connected as it's the K-line pin (ISO 9141).
If you're sure you are looking at the right pin (and not pin 1/2), then your lead is faulty and needs to be replaced.
