The nature of there location means you may be surprised once the 'cup' is cleaned of all the road muck you might find you do have them as they are only small holes. The screws are the 'self tapping' type so they just need a little hole just to grip as you begin, if you do need to, the damper cup you drill in to is only locating the bottom of the spring anyway so there are no cables/pipes/wires etc to worry about and you will probably find even a little hand bradle would do just to create a small indent to start the tip of the screw. |

Thanks all, very helpful advice and comment
Rung Rimmers, under a tenner each side! Why oh why did they not fit them at Rover upon production? Mine was registered December the 15th 2004 - but only covered 372 miles until I bought it at auction in June '06. Probably if it were in the hands of a dealer at the time of any recall, apathy denied action - considering the denouement within the network during this period! Alternatively the MG/Rover administrator was unaware/disinterested and likewise the fault was not remedied. Anyway, as soon as I get them, they're going on straight away! As Thomas Jefferson said 200 years ago; "Money, not morality, is the principle commerce of civilized nations" |

FYI - Unless there being naughty and splitting a pack there's two in a 'kit' i.e each one contains a pair (left and right front) so you only need one of the packs.

Martin, really pleased to see you escaped serious injury. At least you can retro fit the parts to prevent further occurence! After reading your misadventures,i decided to investigate the possibility of it happening to me,only to discover my springs have already been covered by these spring covering things. As you say,it,s strange a known fault was not rectified at source?

Seems that some X-Part dealers have them a lot cheaper than £10.55:
