Default Broadband

I have just taken over another business and have been given there old phone number by BT, I want to add broadband but everytime I try to order it with a provider I am asked for a MAC code?, I assume the people here before me had broadband and have not cancelled it, how do I go about finding out who they had it with?, and how can I cancel it if it is not my contract?, it's driving me nuts now going round in circles, just need to get on line, any ideas?

If they don't pay the bill it will get cancelled and then you won't need a mac code.
Have you tried asking the people you bought the buisness off or failing that BT

No although my account is a talk talk account if I want to check anything I connect through a different link to check my bill to the talk talk customers even though everything is now from talk talk.

I know its no help but had similar when I moved into a rented house, the previous owner had changed energy supplier. It took me 6 months after living in the house to find out who the gas and electricity supplier was!!

Les,

If I have this right there are two ways (perhaps more ) of getting broadband. Usual is piggy backed off your telephone line. Another is via cable etc with TV. Arnt these two systems separate.

In other words if BT has the existing line, keep that cos you want the number and I am sure BT will take you money no problem, then go to a cable company like Virginmedia for broadband which can be a new installation ie no mac code needed.

That assumes of course that cable is available in the area and I have not got myself totally confused about how these things work.

David
