This sounds like a cracked Reverse Piston to me (common fault) although it may be wise to have the Autobox scanned for fault codes.
Have you noticed any 'slipping' effect recently whilst it was changing gears ? I would be surprised if it is a Solenoid fault (9 of them in total & a common failure) I would also be surprised if it is lack of oil because you have lost all drive. It could even be Torque Converter. |

No Drive
Are the drive shafts still in position. Have you checked the auto box fluid level
before? If not then follow the how to s on here. THE LEVEL CHECKING PLUG IS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX, DO NOT UNDO ANYTHING ON THE SIDES OF THE BOX. There are well documented possible problems with the solonoids but never heard of everything failing at the same time. |

Could be that fluid has been lost and if it happened suddenly rather than over a few days I would suggest that one of the pipes from the auto box to the fluid cooler has come adrift. That will dump a lot of the fluid and all drive is lost.
If I am correct it will probably need a new pipe (cost about £50) and a refill with fluid. And if its like mine when that happened no apparant damage to the box. Mine has worked fine over 15k miles since it happened. |

Yes before all drive was lost it felt like a manual with a badly slipping clutch. |

I would do an oil level check first but to be honest, it sounds like it could be a Reverse Piston problem !

Did mine myself about 2 months ago, took me about 1 and a half days and the parts cost me £75. Have a look here at my post....http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...light=littleun
Forgot to add the £25 for the gear oil from Fleet Factors so all in all about £100.... Last edited by littleun; 28th April 2012 at 23:11.. |

I'm afraid I can't do the job myself, what sort of cost could I expect from a garage?

Sit down...... Could be anything from £800 to £1800+.
Whatever you do make sure an auto-box specialist does the job, then you will have guaranteed work done, and peace of mind for many miles to come.
