Not just the media. I'm one of, I suspect, many who prefer F as it's what I learnt as a child. Not everything new or different is good.

I prefer and still use Centigrade, which it was originally until it was changed because it meant something else in Spanish and French so some bureaucratic commitee decided to change it to Celsius in 1946, which is the name of the founder 250 odd years ago.
So yes, that button is useless as I never change it from Degrees C. Plus the only 2 I can co-relate is 0*C = 32*F & 21*C = 71*F

But the F C button gives you something to fiddle with at the lights while drivers of lesser cars parked beside you have only noses to play with

When it comes to Audi's the most useless thing really is the driver.
Seriously, we have an audi dealership just up the road, so every other car is an audi, and they all seem to have this habit of driving right up behind you and keep swerving out to the right in an aggressive way like they want to overtake. I had one follow me yesterday, he was that close, I was going to stop and ask if he wanted me to open the boot so he could get in! As for cars though, the most useless thing is the 'eco' button in my Isuzu Bighorn 4x4 import. It's a modified 3.1TD auto, weighs 3 tons, and does about 12 to a gallon - like an eco button is going to do anything lol |

In fairness though MG-R knew its market, Rovers were often bought by older people who might only understand F.

No, no - they are a brilliant driver aid. Just turn 'em on and leave the system to take car of the rain.

Anders Celcius was a Swedish astronomer (1701–1744), whereas Daniel G Fahrenheit (1686–1736) was of German/Polish/Dutch extraction. Personally, I think 'degrees Thatcher' sounds good for a car of such stature. The button should be marked 'C/F/T'
Degrees Kelvin is the absolute decimal (ala Celcius) scale named after an Irish bloke - as they do. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 18th November 2011 at 20:25.. |
