Have you tried using a listening stick to pinpoint the source? I use a piece a fibreglass rod from a vertical window blind (thumb over one end and press against the ear, other end on the engine).
My KV6 makes the same ticking sound every now and then. It sounds like just like a tappets problem but when I move the stick from the cylinder heads to the purge valve, the noise changes from mildly loud to positively deafening. |

Another thought.
Did you unplug the purge valve while the tick was actually happening - or did you stop the engine and then unplug it? I'm wondering if the purge valve is intermittently faulty - so the ticking noise is always there when the valve is working but never there when it's not (valve still plugged in). |

And i would have thought also a yellow warning light on the IPK?

I have a spare manifold and purge valve but I highly doubt it's the purge valve that's broken as I changed the manifold from my old 75 to this one with new vis motors which I knew it was good
