It could seriously affect the classic car industry and its followers. Suddenly a car running on petrol or diesel will be subject to sky high fuel prices. We will have to tow our classic cars to shows on a trailer using an electric powered Land Rover.

You cannot tow a caravan or trailer with the currently available electric/hybrid vehicles - someone e-mailed this fact into BBC Breakfast earlier today.

I've no knowledge of what China and Africa might do in the future, but India plans to ban the sale of diesel and petrol cars by 2030, ten years earlier than the UK.

I can see the "table talk" reasoning behind this but cannot see it work. If one can buy an imported vehicle that will not be subject to the same controls and the fuel for the older vehicles will have to be available.

Will it actually apply to licence built vehicles?

Lots of questions but by then the Government or decision makers will have changed several times.

Taken from the Governments manifesto:

"Our ambition is for Britain to lead the world in electric vehicle technology and use.
We want almost every car and van to be zero-emission by 2050 – and will invest £600
million by 2020 to help achieve it. We will invest in more low-emission buses, as well as
supporting audio-visual displays for bus passengers and community minibuses for rural
areas poorly served by public transport."

Presumably this latest bit of news is a step toward achieving this.

I had a Mercedes dealer proudly inform me that i would soon be able to go a full 40km in an all electric C class, so i could charge up at home, then charge up again at work to get home again.

Great. What if i wanted to nip out for a pie at lunchtime as well?

More chaos then. Sounds like a pipe dream with 23 years to try and make it work. Right now it's obvious that it won't. I will be 75 by then and probably not too bothered about driving. Pity as I was looking forward to a classic car for sunny days. I will put solar panels on top of my MGB. There's a solution.

I've been reading stuff like this now for awhile, especially these past few months. It will be very interesting to see when the vehicle manufactures start to reduce the numbers of petrol and diesel motors being built, I suppose garage fourcourts will slowly phase out petrol and diesel vehicles in favour of EV's.

EV's seem to favour automatic, doe this mean the manual gearbox will also be phased out.?

We might as well go join the BMW EV Mini club forum now, we could be the original members from 2017, that will look quite impressive when its 2040.
