Default Why do I own a ZT? (in fact two of them now!)

As for me - My Dad worked for a company which became part of the British Leyland empire, we'd always had British cars, and mostly BL, and then Austin Rover.

My first two cars were MG Metros (now if I'd kept them...), which cemented the liking for the MG marque. Before my ZT190 I had a ZS180 which started to deteriorate underneath and I thought I'd have to scrap it, but asked a friend to see what he could do for it. Meanwhile I needed another 'everyday' car for commuting and leisure use. I can't remember why I came to look at MG ZTs, but my current car came up on eBay, went to look at it and was amazed by the quality, the feel, (I already liked the KV6 sound from my ZS) and the price. All in all, I felt I was getting a lot for my £2,000!

My ZS was saved by the way, and I am putting her back on the road in July after being on SORN since last Summer

And they all lived happily ever after.... :-)

Cool

Had a Solar Red 1.8 ZT. Sold it but got the bug and wanted another, but not a Silver or Yellow one.

Had the Yellow one 7 years now, and the Silver one 18 months.

I don't think i can put a finger on just one thing that i fell in love with the car but if pushed i would have to say that it one of the prettiest saloon cars i can think of, or maybe how its such a nice place to be with the sumptious interior, or maybe the ride especially over long distances.
Maybe, just maybe, its just that everytime i go outside and see it sitting in my drive it puts a smile on my face because its mine
Ha ha, I couldn't have said it better myself! You either have one, or there is a constant niggle drawing you back, then you pass one in the street and then that's it, you're in the bad books with the wife again! "You've bought another one?!".

I had a MG ZS MK2 for 2 years and was tired with the poor build quality and cabin noise compared with the better MK1. Great car to drive and I would have another if in exceptional condition and try to improve it.
Not looking for a car, just browsing I saw a 75 that had been saved from being scrapped. At £500 I thought it was a risk worth taking for a bit more comfort and with an engine I had before. It was just as described when I got the train to Darlington and drove it home. Also had never considered a 75 before but glad I took the gamble.
Nearly 4 years later its the longest time I have kept a car as an everyday drive. Thanks to several members/traders its a good car still.
Had my Scimitar 13 years but that was a different story of use and ownership.

I was somewhere in Spain on holiday,in the late 90s,there was a crowd of people standing around admiring a 75. Felt proud to be British and decided one day i will have one of these.

a chap at work suggested one as a tow car.
Just did not like the look of alternative cars and with sandstone and walnut think inside they are posh.
I find it quiet and comfortable.

It does seem that the Rover 75 is an under-rated car by so many people that don't own one or have probably not had a ride in one

Only car I could think of changing it for is a Jaguar.

I saw a new ZT on the MG Rover stand at Waddington Air Show in about 2001 and thought "I'm gonna have me one of those ".

Basically, I have had the Rover bug for over 30 years. An SD1, then an 827 Sterling, followed by 827 Sterling Coupe, which was a truly amazing car I had for some 13 years.

Circumstances decreed I then moved to a Renault Kangoo, ( no boo-ing please), yes, I know !! I really had no choice.

I always intended to get a 75. Loved the style inside and out, one of the best looking cars ever made in my book for the market it was intended for.

Then, one day, I spotted Jasper on a forecourt. Moth to a flame....and I have had him for over two years now. He's superb. My sister, here from Oz, loved him when i took her out in him a few days ago.

Had a ride in one being used as a taxi, and decided then that someday I'd have one.
