Default Christmas Gift Advice

Luckily, a gift I had requested was supplied, a nice fruit cake.
Helpfully, for those who may not be familiar with dealing with such things, the pack has a serving suggestion printed on it..........
"Place cake on a flat surface. Slice using a sharp, long-bladed knife. Clean knife blade between slices"!
How did I ever cope before?

Much more satisfying to use the (long) knife on that flat surface to slice such delicacies horizontally. Then, of course, you only get two cakes. So nobody else gets a look in. As I said, much more satisfying. Alternatively, who has experimented with the example above and spread the bottom slice with soft marzipan. Or, for a change, fig paste.

With the winter holidays coming up, it seems that it would be ok to bump this thread (sorry if I'm wrong).
What are you going to buy for your family and friends this year? Maybe you already did? I'm thinking about personalized gifts. I found several good variants via the Personal Creations reviews. After all, it's the thought that counts.

A great post Fred and you can’t go wrong with cake. I know certain members will be on their own over Christmas because they don’t have any family, but they do have this club and the meets. Will you be able to organise a Christmas meet at one of the venues?

Interesting point Phil, I will look into it, as I'm eating my cake.

Thank you Fred,

We have been invited over my brothers place for Christmas Day and I was wondering what shall I take, a tin of biscuits, perhaps a box of chocolates.
Christmas cake is the winner.

Bon appetite.
