CDTi - be wary of this ...

I'm sure this has been posted before but I changed my fuel filter yesterday and discovered that a pipe had been rubbing on the base of the fuel filter platform and had cut almost to the cords of the pipe. I think the pipe is a fuel return pipe as it runs from the pump back under the car so I'm not sure what pressure it has in it, I am sure that if it had cut much deeper then there would be a lot of fuel everywhere.
I had already been very careful with most of my hoses under the bonnet and wiring that may cause problems and I had remedied and or tied or protected with foam from any harm, but for some reason I missed this one pipe until this time.
I will have to get a section of pipe and replace it but for now it is covered in foam sleeve and tied out of harms way. I guess this pipe is a one piece all the way back under the car too.
Anyone who hasn't, it must be worth the 15 minutes or so to check everything is okay.

I know it's been 2019 since this happened, i am adding just to say that the same hose can burn on the metal pipe it is also next to.

so yes they need to be checked and tied out of the way.

Hi Steve,

Yes indeed, I went through all of the pipes under there and either insulated them or tied them safely out of the way of anything that could possible cause damage, there are a lot of them too.
